The fast food industry affects people economically. According to the Huffington Post, Americans spend more money on processed food than groceries such as produce and dairy. There has also been a 12 % increase of money spent on food in the past 50 years. With fast food restaurants located at every corner going from hospital lobbies, to highways, to airports, etc., people have access to eat at any time of the day! Before World War II, funding for two meals a day was hard to find. After the war came conspicuous consumption, therefore the boom of the fast food industry. The fast food industry also provided minimum wage jobs for immigrants. However, one problem the industry caused was obesity.

The breakout of fast food was bittersweet for society and the economy. People began to use the affordable and quick food products in place of their home cooked meals.
